Late in the fourth quarter, with the Bucs ahead 30-27, Tampa Bay intercepted Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, putting them in prime position to seal the win. Running back Bucky Irving then dashed for seven yards, only to have his facemask grabbed during the tackle.
Fans anticipated a flag for the clear penalty, but the officials called holding on the Buccaneers instead. This costly decision pushed Tampa Bay back to a second-and-23 from Atlanta’s 41-yard line, ruining their chance for a field goal.
With the drive stalling, the Bucs had to punt. Seizing the opportunity, the Falcons tied the game with a field goal, sending it into overtime. Had the facemask penalty been called correctly, the Bucs might have walked away victorious.

Offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs expressed his frustration after the game, saying, “It sucks. I’m pissed. I’m not happy about it. It was right there. They gave it to us.”
Now, with a 3-2 season record, the Bucs must regroup as they prepare to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.
