Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker recently shared a positive update on Friday following his knee surgery. In an Instagram story, Butker reassured fans, writing, “Surgery went great. Thank you for the prayers,” as he prepares for a few weeks on the sidelines. His message brought some relief to Chiefs fans, especially with the team facing the Buffalo Bills in a critical Week 11 matchup.
Butker, who has been a key part of the Chiefs’ perfect 9-0 start, underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The injury, caused by a technique adjustment that led to added strain, will keep him out for 3-4 weeks.
Here’s a screengrab of what Harrison Butker wrote on his stories:
He’ll miss games against the Bills, Panthers, Raiders, and Chargers, with hopes to return by Week 15 against the Browns.

Chiefs have already signed Harrison Butker’s possible replacement
In response, the Chiefs quickly signed rookie kicker Spencer Shrader from the New York Jets’ practice squad, offering him a $2.8 million deal. While Shrader hasn’t had much NFL experience, he’s been perfect so far in the preseason, making all of his field goals and extra points.
The Chiefs are counting on him to step up and maintain the team’s high standards on special teams.
Butker’s absence comes at a tense time for the Chiefs, who are gearing up for an important stretch of games. Shrader will need to prove he can handle the pressure as the Chiefs’ playoff hopes continue to build.
With a solid kick-off record and a strong preseason, he might just be the answer the team needs. Fans will be watching closely as the new kicker takes the field.
