Boston, MA — In yet another disappointing outing for the Boston Bruins, a 7-2 loss to the Dallas Stars revealed ongoing challenges with execution and consistency, as noted by Head Coach Jim Montgomery in a post-game interview. The Bruins struggled from the start, as Dallas kept them on their heels with high-level execution that Boston was unable to match.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Coach Montgomery expressed frustration, noting that the team has struggled all season to string together three to four consecutive games with consistent effort and attention to detail.
“It’s been frustrating all year that we haven’t been able to string together games where our habits and details are consistently there,” Montgomery said, emphasizing the team’s need for greater focus and preparation.
One notable issue on the ice was the Bruins’ difficulty connecting passes. Montgomery attributed this to a lack of readiness, stressing the importance of players knowing their next move before receiving the puck. “The number one reason would be being prepared to know what you’re going to do with the puck before you get it,” he explained.
Jim Montgomery addresses Brando Carlo and penalty call
Adding to the team’s challenges, forward Tyler Johnson was absent due to a family matter, which required him to return home, affecting the team’s depth. Meanwhile, Brandon Carlo, known for his grit, returned to the ice after sustaining a hard hit, exemplifying the kind of resilience the coach values. “He wears his heart out there on the ice, and he’s a Bruin,” Montgomery said of Carlo’s return.
When asked if there had been any consideration to switch goalies in the third period, Montgomery admitted the idea was discussed, but the coaching team ultimately decided to keep their starter in the game. On a controversial penalty shot call, Montgomery disagreed with the decision but understood why it was made, stating, “I didn’t think it was a penalty, but I understand why they called it.”
The Bruins will need to regroup and address these issues as they look to regain form and consistency in upcoming games.
